FCOG Intermediate Overview
The FCOG(SA) Intermediate is the second of the three FCOG examinations. It is a computer-based test (CBT) covering clinical obstetrics and gynaecology as well as relevant basic medical sciences.
The FCOG(SA) regulations of December 2024 do not state an attempt limit for the Intermediate exam - confirm the current position with CMSA before relying on one. The exam is machine-marked, with the pass mark determined using standard setting methods.

Eligibility & Requirements
- Passed the FCOG(SA) Primary, or the Part 1 Fellowship of a recognised college with reciprocal agreements.
- Completed a minimum of 12 months in a registrar training post in an accredited department approved by the CMSA.
