Is there a mobile app or an offline mode?
+
There's no separate app to install, Passmed runs in any modern browser and is fully responsive on phones and tablets, so you can study on any device just by logging in at our website. An internet connection is required; there is currently no offline mode.
I'm a foreign-qualified doctor, can I use Passmed?
+
Absolutely. If you're preparing for the HPCSA Board Examination, the exam foreign-qualified doctors must pass to register and practise in South Africa, or any other exam we cover, Passmed works for you regardless of where you trained. Our bank is matched to the official exam scope, so you can focus your study where it counts.
What is your pass rate?
+
We don't publish a single pass rate figure because it would be misleading. Pass rates vary significantly by exam, by how much of the bank a user completed, and by how long they studied, a headline number risks creating false expectations. Instead, we stand behind results directly: attempt every question in your bank, average above 65% on your first attempts, and if you still don't pass, we'll refund you in full under our pass guarantee.
How long should I study before my exam?
+
We recommend starting at least 3 months before your Fellowship or HPCSA exam date. Begin with a practice session to baseline your current knowledge, then build a topic-by-topic plan around the official exam curriculum. Consistent daily sessions produce far better results than last-minute cramming, spaced repetition requires time to work.
I'm unable to log in, what should I do?
+
Common reasons for failed logins include:
  • Browser issues, try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge)
  • Incorrect email or password, the password is case-sensitive; check for extra spaces if you're copy-pasting
  • Account not yet activated, make sure you've verified your email after signing up
If you're still unable to log in after trying the above, contact us at support@passmed.com.
What should I do if I forgot my password?
+
Click the "Forgot password?" link on the login page to reset your password via email.
How do I log in?
+
Enter your email address and password at the login page. The password field is case sensitive. Click "Log in" and you'll be taken straight into your learning portal.

Passmed is fully web-based and works on any modern device, desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. Your progress syncs automatically across all your devices. We recommend Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari, updated within the last 12 months.

What is Passmed and who is it for?
+
Passmed is a question bank platform built specifically for South African postgraduate medical exams. We serve two audiences:
  • Doctors in Training sitting CMSA Fellowship and HPCSA exams (FCP, FCS Primary, FCOG, FCA, FCEM, FCPsych, FCPaed, FCD, FCMFOS, the Dip HIV Management, and the HPCSA Board Examination for foreign-qualified doctors)
  • Medical Students preparing for their undergraduate clinical examinations - question banks coming soon
Every question is reviewed by a qualified doctor and matched to the official exam curriculum. Since 2017, Passmed has helped thousands of doctors and medical students pass their exams.
Can I get a receipt or invoice for reimbursement?
+
Yes. You'll automatically receive an emailed payment receipt after checkout, which most employers accept for education-allowance or employer reimbursement. If you need an itemised invoice or specific billing details (for example, your programme or department as the bill-to), email support@passmed.com and we'll send one.
Can I share my subscription with a colleague?
+
No. Subscriptions are single-user only. Sharing accounts means your performance analytics become inaccurate and your personalised recommendations won't work properly. Account sharing violates our Terms & Conditions and may result in suspension. For multi-user access, see our Institutional plans.
Do you offer group or institutional discounts?
+
Yes. We offer institutional licensing for training programmes, academic departments, universities, and hospital groups. Group discounts are available. Visit our Institutions page or email institutions@passmed.com for a custom quote.
What should I do if my credit card was declined?
+
Declines are usually caused by your card-issuing bank, this can happen due to unusual transaction patterns, purchase limits, or incorrect card details. Contact your bank to resolve the issue and try again, or use a different card. If problems persist, email support@passmed.com.
Is my payment information secure?
+
Absolutely, your security is our priority. We do not store any credit card information. All payment data is sent over an encrypted TLS connection. Payments are processed by Stripe, a global leader in secure payment processing. For more information, see our Privacy Policy.
What forms of payment do you accept?
+
We accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. Institutional accounts can also pay by EFT bank transfer or via purchase order and invoice.
How do I apply a coupon code?
+
During checkout, click the "Have a promo code?" box, enter your code, and click "Apply." The discount will be applied to all eligible products and your cart total will update automatically. Only one coupon code can be used per purchase.
Can I get a refund?
+
Yes, within limits. We offer a free trial so you can try Passmed before you buy. After you purchase, you can request a full refund within 14 days as long as you've answered fewer than 50 questions in the relevant exam bank during your paid subscription (questions answered during your free trial don't count) - just email support@passmed.com. Beyond that, refunds are covered only by our pass guarantee (see above).
Do you offer a pass guarantee?
+
Yes. If you've attempted every question in your exam bank during your subscription and your overall average is above 65%, and you still don't pass, we'll refund that subscription in full. Your average is based on your first answer to each question, measured against your most recent subscription. To claim, email your official result to support@passmed.com within 30 days of the result being published. Full conditions are in our Terms & Conditions.
Will I lose my progress if I renew?
+
Not at all, your account data is retained even after your subscription expires. If you renew with the same subscription, all of your statistics will still be available. You also have the option to reset if you prefer a fresh start.
Can I renew or extend my subscription?
+
Yes. You can extend your subscription at any time without losing your progress. A renewal discount is automatically applied at checkout. You'll be prompted before your subscription expires with an option to purchase additional time.
When does my subscription start?
+
Your subscription begins within minutes after you submit payment.
Can I subscribe to multiple question banks at once?
+
Yes, you can subscribe to more than one exam bank with a single account.
Does one subscription cover all exams?
+
Each subscription gives you access to one exam question bank. If you're preparing for multiple exams, you'll need a separate subscription for each. You can hold multiple subscriptions under the same account, and progress for each bank is tracked independently.
How much does Passmed cost?
+
We offer 1-month, 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month subscription plans for each exam bank. Longer plans offer better value per month. Visit our Pricing page for current rates. Institutional pricing is also available.
Do you offer CPD points?
+
No. Passmed is an exam-preparation question bank and does not currently offer HPCSA Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points or CEUs.
Which CMSA and HPCSA exams do you cover?
+
Passmed focuses on CMSA Fellowship exams (including FCP, FCS Primary, FCOG, FCA, FCEM, FCPsych, FCPaed, FCD, and FCMFOS), the Dip HIV Management, and the HPCSA Board Examination for foreign-qualified doctors. Can I become a question writer?
+
We are continually expanding our content and always looking for contributors and editors. If you're a keen academic with attention to detail who would love to contribute, please send your information via our contact page or email support@passmed.com and we'll be in touch.
Does Passmed track my performance?
+
Yes. Your dashboard automatically tracks your performance by topic and subtopic, showing where you're strongest and where to focus so you can target your weak areas. You can see your accuracy per topic, your activity over time, and how much of each bank you've completed.
How many questions are in each bank?
+
Question counts vary by exam. See our Exams page for the specific count for each bank. All banks grow continuously as our doctor author teams add new questions.
Do you only provide the correct answer, or a full explanation?
+
Each question includes the correct answer and a detailed explanation. These explanations are derived from quality resources and publications and written by qualified doctors. We also explain why each incorrect answer option is wrong, understanding the distractors is one of the most effective ways to avoid similar traps on the real exam.
What is the difference between Test Mode and Tutor Mode?
+
  • Test Mode, you won't see any answers or explanations until you submit the entire test. Use this to simulate real exam conditions and practice pacing.
  • Tutor Mode, the correct answer and full explanation are displayed immediately after each question, allowing you to learn as you go. Best for building knowledge on new topics.
How often is content updated?
+
Content is updated on a regular basis according to feedback from our Passmed community and exam changes. We don't set a fixed schedule, if a question becomes outdated, we update it. New questions are added regularly.
How is content matched to the exam curriculum?
+
We map every question to the official curriculum published by the relevant body (the CMSA colleges, HPCSA, and university faculties). Question weighting across topics mirrors the actual exam distribution, so your study time is spent where the points are. Curricula are reviewed quarterly and questions updated whenever official distributions change.
Who writes the questions?
+
Every question on Passmed is reviewed by a qualified doctor and our authors are specialty-matched.
What exams do you currently cover?
+
We currently cover:
  • Fellowship & HPCSA exams (Doctors in Training): FCP, FCS Primary, FCOG, FCA, FCEM, FCPsych, FCPaed, FCD, FCMFOS, the Dip HIV Management, and the HPCSA Board Examination

+

Can I reset my progress?
+
Yes, you can reset your question bank once from your account settings. Please note this will permanently erase all your progress and statistics and cannot be undone. Use it wisely, once it's gone, it's gone.
Can I switch between exam banks?
+
